After a rocky start to his F1 career in the four weekends till now, Esteban Gutiérrez was relieved to have a decent day at the office for Sauber in Spain.

He did a reasonable race but it was really the first time this year that he managed to do so and he would still have finished well behind Hulkenberg if Nico wouldn´t have had that pit incident. He´s also 0 for 5 in quali against Hulkenberg. I realise it´s not fair to expect him to come in and be on Hulk's level but still I'd say so far he's the worst driver on the grid along with Chilton.

With what seemed like the complete Sauber team cheering on Robin Frijns after his win and 2nd place in GP2 this weekend for a team that isn't exactly considered to be one of the best, I'm sure he's feeling the pressure. The team's probably already thinking about replacing him but for now they probably don't want to annoy Carlos too much

Last year Sauber was in contention with both drivers scoring a record number of points (126 points total ).
Sauber had the potential to achieve near "A" team status. This year Sauber is barely ahead of the "D" teams along with Williams. Obviously mexican sponsorship $$$$ in conjunction with a poor driver choice has put Sauber in a deep hole. Good luck getting out!!!!

Watching GP2 last year, i feared that he might not be ready yet, he made a lot of silly mistakes.
And his first four races didn't help, but I'm glad to see him drive a great race to show that he does have to ability to run in Formula 1.

@Ted

Glad to amuse you...however let's review his results in F1 to date shall we:

Australia: went out in Q1, crashed.
Malaysia: Q14, R12...Hulk Q12, R8
China: Q18 (again out in Q1 while teammate managed Q3), crashed in race, received grid penalty for crash. Hulk Q10, R10.
Bahrain: Q18 (again out in Q1, pus grid penalty), R18, 0.5s ahead of a Caterham, Hulk Q14, R12.
Spain: Q16 (plus grid penalty for impeding Kimi), R11 couldn't pass STR which was on older tyres. Hulk Q15, retired from race from what would have been a point scoring position.

So there you have it, 5 races, 2 crashes, 2 grid penalties, 3 times out in Q1, never qualified in front of his teammate, never finished ahead of teammate when teammate finished.

Worst driver in F1.
