Martin Whitmarsh insists that his McLaren team is not about to quit on the current F1 campaign in order to get its house in order for 2014 and beyond.

There are 14 races to go, so in theory all the front teams have enough time to jump ahead of the pack, but realistically McLaren and Mercedes are out of it.

There can only be one reason why McLaren are sticking with this hapless car, and that is to develop it for 2014. They aren't admitting it at this stage, it would be a total PR disaster to do so.

richard : but he is a hell of a lot better driver than most on the grid

Really what like Vettel, Alonso, Kimi, Hamilton, Webber, Massa, Hulkenberg, Bianchi?

I dont think so really, Throughout his career including fford and F3 he has been an average steady driver. In years to come he will be remembered like we remember the likes of Coulthard and Barrichello.
Good but not Great. And pre empting bob's next comment " what so Hamilton will be a remembered as a great driver then" Button has a year or 2 left of his F1 career and has past his peak. Hamilton has maybe another 10 years left of his so only time will tell.

mikeb. dc won gps, barro won gps, button wn gps etc etc. and all buttons gp wins were not in a dominant brawn. how many have you won?
I do not rate him as a great, but I do not bring him down at every opportunity.
we get it loud and clear, you don't like button, but why keep on harping about him when the topic is McLaren team? I guess the fact that he was able to match lulu is the reason? are you "rons golden troll" again?

Here we go again. Another "my driver is better than yours" debate by both sets of fans...

The last time I checked, they both had 1 WDC to their name! The rest is incidental...

No you bring Hamilton down at every opportunity.

Anyone who says anything positive about him is a fanboy in your eyes.

Button never matched Hamilton at all. Wow more points over 3 years that is the only statistic people like bob harp on about. Do most people see Webber to be as quick as Vettel? Not real enthusiasts just Webber Fans.

Now im not a Fan of any driver in particular but I know when one is clearly faster than his team mate.

come along children, stop with the "tit for tat". As richard said, seems impossible to have reasoned debates on here - they all degenerate into mud-slinging.

NB - as for Button's '09 season, I recall Brawn commenting at season's end that they had run out of funds for development, so the car did not progress after mid-season.

Still think McL should have reverted to their 2012 car before now.
