This is UNREAL, how can they be aloud to do this! Mclaren would bite off there right arms for a 3 day test round barcelona to sort out there car! I cant believe it! so unfair on other teams, In season testing is banned.

I'm sure it wouldn't have been a big deal if it was one of the smaller teams, but why did Pirelli choose one of the title contending teams to do the test?

And why didn't they announce to all the teams that it was to be done?

Completely unacceptable.

If Pirelli wanted feedback on the Canada spec tyres, why not have 4 or 5 teams to get a balanced viewpoint & data?

This just looks like
A- Mercedes getting in season testing
B- Pirelli custom making tyres to fix Mercedes problems.

Shameful turn of events. Quite worrying that this has been kept a secret from the other teams for almost a fortnight, it can only be seen as collusion between Mercedes and Pirelli.
If tyre testing was needed use one of last seasons cars and use a driver that is not involved in this years World Championship, I'm sure that wouldn't be too difficult to arrange.

how on earth could fia sanction special testing for any team? granted that more testing should be allowed, but to restrict his favour to the team that is worst affected by tyre degradation, is just plain race fixing

Just a sense check.
Is the problem the selected team or the selected drivers.
Taipan.
Last years cars are basically this years cars without the tweaks.
Richard.
The point appears that the FIA did sanction the test.

Pirelli must have thought that Mercedes offered a better overall analysis .

Maybe to keep it fair they should have tested with Martin Brundle in Sir Moss's bath tub.

OTOH, To continue the sense check do you think it's FAIR to allow one team and two current drivers 3 days of tyre testing and keep it all a secret from the other teams?

A simple yes or no will suffice.

otoh. it was a rhetorical question "how on earth could...". they did not inform any other team. they could have used force india, sauber or another lower grid team, so ensuring parity for the top teams. merc did 1000 kms. now that is some test!
and brawn, before this fact was made public, admitted that they came from Barcelona with some solid facts that they were working on.
now we know what he meant!

it will be interesting... if merc win or do well in Canada, I guess that all hell will break loose?
