Can't believe how bad this all is. FIA as usual at the heart of the problem. Mercedes might think what they did was fair but it's not in the spirit of fairness. Now what is the FIA going to do? Merc look very stupid, Pirelli stuck in the middle needing a "real test car" shoud Merc loose all Monaco points? or 10 place grid penalty in Canada - which will hurt LH - he goes well there. Shame for Nico, he drove flawless the whole weekend. What a mess

So, the 2010 spec car is lapping 3 to 4 seconds slower. That's merely 2.1 to 2.8%, considering an average lap of 1:20.

No, Pirelli, your tyres are rubbish because you've been ordered to produce rubbish by FIA, not because cars today can lap 2.1% faster.

FIA has to end the farce that F1 has become in the past couple of decades. Let's have some real no holds barred racing, let's foster innovation. F1 went from being the pinnacle of technology to being a bunch of luddites. "Ooh, new tech, can't have that now, can we? BAN IT!". Cars are so slow and we have to resort to all sorts of trickery to have overtaking, like rubbish tyres and DRS and what have you.

Seriously, F1 is dead to me. And I've been watching F1 since 1978.

Sunny I don't think Nico should lose the win either. He dominated but was it fair? I'm a bit shocked Mercedes would pull a stunt like this so I think the FIA will hit them with something before the next race (10 place grid penalty maybe) LH does go well in Canada. I think he's won it 3 times

As unfair as it will be to the drivers, I think the only fair solution would be to exclude Mercedes for the next 3 races. This will allow the other teams to catch up on the development time that Merc gained during the test - approximately 3 races worth.

racefan = 2.1 to 2.8%

i will guess changes in regs for high nose and different size wings mean tire work is different on car than two year ago or maybe car moves more side to side so maybe realty is more than 2.8. maybe data from two year old cars say that tire should act different and they needed current car to find out why predictions are wrong. twice already this season tires have failed badly in race weekends. sure they did not build catastrophe failure into fia spec.

@bob, the only fair fair solution would be to exclude whomever colluded on the testing. As you've said, exclude Mercedes, exclude Pirrelli and if they allowed it exclude the FIA for three races. Should make you and everyone else happy.
