Jenson Button reckons that Fernando Alonso chose to err on the side of caution during a fraught Monaco Grand Prix.

Alonso had a slower car for this particular type of track.

As a number of drivers have said, its such a unique track. I'm sure the McLaren's will be less competitive again soon.

At the beginning, it appeared Alonso was being outclassed by a younger driver, but they don't pay points at the beginning of the race and at the end of the day, Alonso was the one that scored more points than Perez or Button, so yes, his intelligence did intercede in his decisions.

Alonso is also on record as saying that Ferrari was not going to do well this weekend. Note that Ferrari have not won at Monaco in 10 years since the glory days of Michael Schumacher. Their cars just don't do well at these types of tight street circuits.
