F1 » Petrov still hankering after F1 return

He may not have a sponsor or manager, but Vitaly Petrov insists that he is still focused on returning to the F1 grid in 2014.

Petrov is not a talented driver, all he could do to stay in F1 was to bring $$$ and once that source dried up, he was left without a ride. I don't think we'll see him again in F1, which is just as well.

I don't rate Lurch as a driver, but I'm surprised there's no domestic backing available given the Russian GP is around the corner.

Then again, maybe there IS financial backing available, just not for HIM in a lowly Caterham.

Petrov is a pretty good driver, would much rather see him back on the scene instead of someone like Max Chilton. But I think Kobayashi should be at the top of everyones list for a return.

I cannot see the fiercely patriotic Vladimir Putin, stomaching the Russian Grand Prix without a Russian driver. I think all it would take is for Petrov to say he's going directly to the Americans for some sponsorship to bring Putin out with all guns blazing. In fact Petrov is already saying he's going outside Russia to get some sponsorship so I expect him back in next season.

Shakey's comment is probably correct. His manager did struggle with gaining sponsors after his move to Caterham. I think he only got the Caterham placement because (like many others incl Kovaleinen ) they (the sponsors) were "sold" the dream of Team Lotus (as it was), rapidly rising through the grid and getting loads of exposure. This didn't happen of course! The big Russian Rubles are probably there if he was still at a top team. Can't see quite where he will be next year unless a big name gets dropped. Possible Lotus return if Grosjean messes up too much??
