Rather than rabbiting on about something that might or might not happen he should concentrate on digging Mclaren out of the huge hole they are in at the moment. It does'nt matter how many races there are because if Mclaren produce another dud car next season they will not be competing for either championship.

omah1975, so it looks like they will be nowhere boys until perhaps 2015 making another good reason for Whitmarsh to step aside for someone else to fill the hole and turn the team around.

first of all, I don't thinkthat whitmarsh is to blame for mclarens slump. he did not design the car! I believe that it was a corporate design with several people working on it. that sort of thing does not work.
secondly, I think that hiring michaels was a mistake. he messed up williams and is now messing up macca.
thirdly, this would not be the first time a team (any team) has produced a dud. there is nothing to say that next years car could not be a wonder car. macca have plenty of time to concentrate on the 2014 car.

@richard

Agree 100% that hiring Sam Michael was a mistake.

Who was responsible for hiring him though? probably Twitmarsh.

They decided to design a new car for 2013 and the designers got it wrong (maybe bad tunnel data) but who rubber stamped the decision to allow the design team to go down that path? Ron or Martin? again I'd guess Twitmarsh was heavily involved in that call.

Bad management filters down the chain and affects everyone.

Taz, I agree with you as long as bad management remains at McLaren, they will just be a stumbling dithering challenge to Red Bull and Ferrari etc How much worse can they get under Whitmarsh before he is axed. Fans are now talking of McLaren as the next Williams.

Knowing how an F1 car design/concept is arrived at by a select comity I fail to see how Withmarsh can be held responsible for a bad or not so good design.
Those that are blaming Withmarsh for mclaren rolling out a bad car for 2013 do not know what they are talking about simply because they are talking about something which they do not understand.

sunny. it appears there are others who are confused. on sky last weekend, they were comparing stats for newey and brawn!!
a designer against a manager! did they not know the difference? now, pitch newey against byrne, maybe, but not against brawn.

Whose decision was it, to go for a new design and bin the 2012 car?

I think that person should carry the can!!!

Ron Dennis quotes "Martins makes all the decision and he is responsible for all of them"
