If he dumps everything else on his agenda/calendar to focus exclusively on driving, the team continues to screw Nico with DNFs/ team orders/bad strategy calls, Merc avoids being taken out by tire-gate, Ferrari/Alonso get lost on upgrades, Lotus/Kimi just give up out of frustration, and the wheels fall off Red Bull's entire operation... yes, he has a chance. In few races, if Merc is unable to make use of the data they gained in testing to fix the rear grip issues causing severe degradation, that chance will shrink to zero. Better money will be on Lewis ending up in his usual 4th for the year - behind Vettel, Alonso, and either Kimi, Weber, or Nico - supported by his regular list of excuses.

too much grip can cause overheating (static friction, not kinetic) :) If they were not testing this years tires, then they will have gained very little in testing so far as the tires go.

Should be interesting to see what Lewis can get done on brakes he actually feels comfortable with. Merc get the balance right and the car's down force is sufficient, and the math is worked out right, Mercedes could be the new McLaren.

He is lucky that he had a better race then Rosberg in Canada as he was on the verge of losing the plot/his head like he did at mclaren with his than team mate.
The main problem confusing his head is the comparison of himself and his team mate/s and the comparison of the other top two with their team mates namely Vettel and Alonso.

“Static friction not kinetic” total balderdash that.
Grip? That is one of the other items that Lulu added to the brakes after Canada that the team needs to address.
Lulu getting the brakes right? Its got to be the team that will have to get the brakes to Lulu's likings, but still the team having changed to CI discs and pads, the material he was used too they didn't managed that.
What's left is the calliper, Mercedes uses brambo while at mclaren it was acobano.
