F1 » Ricciardo fears losing ground to Vergne in RBR race

Daniel Ricciardo is concerned that Toro Rosso team-mate Jean-Eric Vergne's recent performances may have moved the Frenchman ahead of him in the race to replace Mark Webber at Red Bull in 2014.

Unless Lotus pull out their finger Kimi might well go to Red Bull....or just decide he's had enough and leave the sport again, hope that's not the case.

I'd put £20 on Kimi going to Red Bull.

Kimi is not going to Red Bull. The dynamic between him and Seb is not what the team wants, or needs. Weber will remain in 2014. The issue is with the STR pair. They are going to be bummed that they will not be promoted for 2014, so the Weber announcement will be very late in the season. STR finishing higher in the WCC is money in the bank, management is not going to risk seeing that evaporate over personal issues related to 2014 seat positions,

I don't think Vettel will like to partner Kimi in Red Bull.
If Red Bull signed Kimi and then it will be good show in Red Bull team and on track. I believe Kimi is better than Vettel.

Ricciardo does not need to worry about one race result. He needs to concentrate on his race strategy and improvement of driving style rather than Vergne achievement in Canada.

I feel sorry for Ricciardo because he is a better driver than JEV and his consistency is often overshadowed by one (or two, in this case) good JEV result.
I think one of them will get a RBR seat next year, though. There is no way that Weber is staying on and I really doubt Precious would not be too happy having Kimi around

They both will be sacked by Toro Rosso sooner or later, as happened with Buemi and Alguersuari. Kimi will get the seat. Vergne said that sixth was the best result of this team since 2008, when Vettel was driving with them. That's true but Red Bull will not sign a driver which finishes one race sixth and four other twelveth or thirteenth. They need a consistent driver.

firestorm. rather an unfair comparison. when seb was with str, he was driving a newey red bull, with a Ferrari engine. but vergne is driving a totally independent design with no input from newey. so vergnes result was the best for independent str ever! and don't forget, he was in for a seventh last year when schumi attacked him.
seeing as vergne has less f1 experience than ricciardo, I think that he is doing a better job. but probably another year in str will take the wildness out of him.

If KR does go to RBR, that will sort of be a slap in the face to all STR and Jr RB drivers. The whole point of STR to me it seemed was to groom young talent to fill the spots of RBR when and if SV or MW leave. If KR comes on board, that basically tells all drivers in the RB youth program that driving for us doesn't mean anything. If that's the case, RB could save lots of $ running just 1 team, instead of having STR and teams in all the lower series.
