Montreal will hopefully be the low point of McLaren's disappointing 2013 F1 season, according to sporting director Sam Michael.

elijah . . . you do force india a bit of a disservice. and as for whitmarsh and michael, someone at mclaren came up with a very good reason to design the car they have now, i think that person is no longer at the team

Amazed there's so much support for Twitmarsh.

Yes he probably is more evenhanded in driver management but he seems to spend more time trying to be a politician and giving the press soundbites than putting his house in order.

Say what you want about Dennis (can't say I ever liked his style either) but they have gone backwards since he left.

Taz, McLaren have won a single constructors title in the last 22 years, the vast majority of that time Dennis was running the show. Even with Newey on board they didn't dominate.

Whitmarsh's first 4 seasons as team principal

2009- 3rd
2010- 2nd
2011- 2nd
2012- 3rd

Dennis's Last 5 seasons as team principal

2008- 2nd
2007- Dqd
2006- 3rd
2005- 2nd
2004 - 5th

So they haven't gone backwards, and during Dennis's last years RBR hadn't really been invented.

Its been a disappointing season for Mclaren.

I wonder though does this development car put them ahead of the game for next year with the others choosing to evolve last years ca?

Lets hope so.

On everyone else's comments, I think Whitmarsh is a great leader I'm however suspect on Sam's worth as he did not seem to do a great job at Williams.

Thats my point exactly, Whitmarsh had 2 world champion driving for him at Mclaren!! Ferrari only had alonso and RBR had only had Vettel!
