As far as I'm concerned there's only one thing that should happen now. McLaren should demand that Hamilton's 2008 win at Spa be reinstated immediately After all, the move he made was deemed ok by Charlie Whiting at the time and as we've all just been informed, that's good enough even if you do break the rules.

I too feel sorry for the young drivers scheduled to test for Mercedes over those three days. They have missed an important chance which could have kick started their careers in F1.

This decision is truly shameful (the punishment was even suggested by Mercedes itself) and once again shows just how inept the FIA are!

Let me advance a conspiracy theory. Pirelli, having engineering problems with their tyres, not wanting to admit to having unsafe tyres and getting no help from the majority of the teams was between a rock and a hard place. Mercedes, while confident in the progress they were making got a shock with the Hamilton tyre accident and so had to verify whether they or Pirelli were doing something wrong. Lotus and a few others thought they had a good enough setup so were never going to help. Now to the plot. Pirelli having got an agreement to help from Mercedes told Mercedes about Ferrari's testing which set off lightbulbs in Ross' head. Ross, looking at the rules and seeing the opportunity to invoke the exception clause without actually having to involve everyone else, checked with and got a go ahead from Whiting and the FIA legal dept. Pirelli then set up the test for after the GP, fully knowing that the current cars would be available.

The test went ahead with Pirelli.. wink, wink thinking that Mercedes had informed the other teams and Mercedes lol thinking that Pirelli had informed the other teams. Why did Christian seem so down and accepting of the decision, he realized he was PLAYED by Ferrari, his new friend.
