Closing the stable door after the horse has bolted.

Didn't even have the balls to shoot the horse after it bolted.

Just branded it with a red hot branding iron with "cheats" written on the end of it.

stop press! brawn has been hired to ighten the rules so that only a merc sized "loophole" exists.

ty. what would happen if, before any changes to the rules, another team does the same, as I suggested yesterday. precedent has now been set, so fia could not impose any other penalty.

mark. good point, but as teams have individual contracts with Pirelli for supply, and Pirelli say they are not bound by the rules, then there should be no problem. teams can get tyres for straight line tests etc, so Pirelli do play ball.

rob. note that I put the word in inverted commas. just couldn't think of a more correct word to use. but there was NO actual loophole. merc were found to have broken the rules and the codes, but I think that whitings involvement was the reason why the penalty was not more severe. if there had been a genuine loophole, then I would have been ok with it. it happens, and good on newey to spot those existing in technical rules. but shame on merc actually BREAKING rules.
