Charlie Whiting reveals that tyre issues almost caused the British Grand Prix to be stopped

Its about time someone listened to Jackie Stewart and stops the ridiculous spectacle of tyre changing. It's only ever been a means to introduce an element of chance to allow 'overtaking'. But we now have KERS and DRS (another two idiotic ideas to appeal to the environmental mob and artificially induce overtaking) that facilitate overtaking. Fuel stops are entirely logical, they allow the cars to run lighter and maximise performance but banned on the grounds of safety - but will they ban tyre stops on the grounds of safety? The over manipulation of F1 regulations and interference by those wishing to enhance the 'spectacle' for TV viewers is destroying F1. It's a motor race for God's sake, let the drivers race!
