His father was one of the luckiest men in FI history, with a nice British racing MARKETABLE surname, He was probably the softest wc in the modern era with the BEST car and team........
Alan Jones gave a good insight of this Era regarding soft British drivers.....like Hill ,DC ect even button.... getting racy cars,
Head and Frank believed they could put anyone in their cars and win...this changed later when their cars came back to the pack.

Unknown Brits cost peanuts to real talent.
Frank and Head were desperate for a British driver to race with their new ideology... to drive their unbeatable British car serviced by their British Team .....Damon was the perfect fit......

Hey bob jane- If Damon Hill was the perfect fit then why did Williams and Head kick him to the curb the year he won the WC for Heinz-Harald Frentzen? (Who?) Exactly! Also, if anyone could win the WC in a Williams, then why couldn't Frentzen?
Damon Hill was a great driver. Was he lucky to be in a Wiliams? Anyone would be, point is he got the job done.

in 1996 the willie was light years ahead of the pack, Max Chilton could of won races in that car as long as he was being supported as number 1......Hill was Not a great driver he was mid to back of the Grid driver...like Brundle DC Herbert ..Only Irvine had bit of talent out of brits of that era,, But tied in the Ferrari..
Hill was the team supported number 0ne driver and got all upgrades ect through 1996...according to Jacs book...Hill was booted cos he had no talent and Williams got their brit drivers crown..They were trying to get Irvine in 97 but where out foxed and didn't want to pay for irvines ask....Why else would a team boot a WC if it wasn't over money.......Hill the luckiest and softest WC in modern F1 history...... 90% of that wc was team support and Machinery,,,,I remember every race all the blunders Hill made under pressure was made up by THat car...
