This is Ricciardo's best chance. He needs to step into that car and kick butt!!!

Leave the team with no option but to sign him. Kimi's wage demands could be more than they think he's worth - and Ricci could be the perfect number 2 who won't rock the boat with their golden child...

I really think it is in Red Bull's best interest, as far as the constructor's championship goes, to select a very solid second tier driver. I really like Kimi but that is trouble waiting to happen. You can't have him out there running Seb down. You can't dial him back. I just don't see a role for him at that team at this time.

Based entirely on proven ability, you can't go past Raikkonen. He is probably the best choice of driver.
HOWEVER... is he the best business/long term choice? If Raikkonen goes to Red Bull, how long would he stay, either with the team or in the sport? There's every chance that he'll bail in two or three years time. With Ricciardo, on the other hand, you could expect five-plus years out of him. Possibly up to 10 years.

If Ricciardo is near enough to Raikkonen in whatever way you want to assess driving and racing ability, then I'd go for the former as a long term investment. But if there is daylight between them, Raikkonen has to be the choice.

So many variables....

Just as the team will be asking Kimi those questions, Kimi will also be asking Adrian Newey similar questions about his plans. If Kimi sees how easy the car is to drive - and wins the WDC in his first season with them, then he could easily drive for another 5 years. Others before him have done that, e.g. Michael and Rubens.

Well it's not like he hasn't done it before! Last young driver test Dan drove for RBR he lapped 1.3 seconds quicker than Vettel's pole lap!

Dan is quick, mark my words! He will give Vettel a hiding on more than a few occasions, you can bet on it!
