Susie Wolff: Ultimately a race team is going to put the best driver they can in the race car because they want performance and for me it was important today to show that I had the performance

"Ultimately a race team is going to put the best driver they can in the race car because they want performance and for me it was important today to show that I had the performance" Wolff

Even if this were true, is she really the best driver they can get?

Susie did better than expected, but it must be taken in context. Susie had used the sim and had straight line runs before, whereas some of the newbies ad never been near an f1 car before. yet all the newbies were on similar or better pace. Susie beat marussia and caterham , so no real great shakes. I would love to see a female in f1, but still say, Susie has done nothing to deserve such a seat.

really, if she is sure she has the pace to compete at the top level, why does she not enter gp2 and prove it?

Even though all the drivers were running different programmes, with different restrictions, I think yesterday's times just go to prove what most people already know, that Max Chilton does not belong in F1.

Just how being 2 or 3 seconds slower than the fastest car is being on the pace I'm not sure. She is deluding herself if she thinks she is going to be offered a F1 drive, there are numerous male drivers who would do a equal or better job and she needs to drive in a competitive series to try and prove she can do it. I suggest GP2 and I also suggest that she would be found wanting. She had mediocre results in the DTM and there is no reason to believe she can raise her game.

Desire Wilson probably had the best results - in Aurora (British F1 series) for any female driver and did extremely well but was way off the pace in F1 proper. Not being sexist but no reason to believe that Wolff is suddenly going to make a massive step forward. Time will tell.

@ thelogicalview. She took the challenge, finished in ninth position just behind Paffet and ahead of at least two current F1 drivers. As a motorsport fan you should be aware that most if not all the current F1 races began with drivers at least 2 seconds off the pace. Judge her by the results. The car came back undamaged as well.

Question to Richard, is Red Bull and Toro Rosso the same team and is one team allowed to run four cars ? Also how can Ricciardo be testing for both teams, is this within the rules?

no. str and rbr are two independent teams, which just happen to have red bull as the main investor. there are no rules that prohibit any driver testing for another team, but their individual contracts would prevent it. so ricciardo couldn't test a force india (for example). however when str is classed as the junior rbr team, there would be nothing to prevent interchanging drivers. it might have been nice to see seb doing a few laps in the str ?
putting ricciardo in the rbr was the reason why webber could not drive. the rules for this specific test stated that only two current f1 drivers could drive any car, for a half day each
