Red Bull team boss Christian Horner has said that the choice for drivers for 2014 is now between Kimi Raikkonen and Daniel Ricciardo, and that the money is not a factor in the decision.

I cant help but feel that unless Kimi's demands are way too high, then Daniel has little chance of getting this drive. Kimi's credentials are way too good to ignore, as Horner said, the constructors championship money would already pay his salary. We already know Kimi is consistant and can finish races

I think Riccardo will get the seat when Webber leaves, because why else have a junior team and Riccardo is more likely to play second fiddle to Vettel, than Raikkonen, you only have to look at what happened in the past when Vettel and Webber went head to head on the track, i think Riccardo will be a better Team player for Red Bull in the short term and long term, even though Raikkonen is the better driver.

Raikkonen is one of the most popular drivers on the grid, his personality is fantastic! Do sky F1 do a 'Ricciardo quote of the week'...? No.

Personally, I think if Lotus can pay enough to keep Kimi happy, he will stay, and I think that will be the right decision for him.

@Golan while Torro Rosso is taken as being the sister team I don't believe that they actually have any binding agreement regarding it being a stepping board into RBR.

Perhaps RBR need to consider not only the post-Webber period (i.e., finding Vettel a team player) but also the post-Vettel period. Perhaps Riccardo would be better for them in the short term but Raikkonen seems like the better long term option.

I doubt that Kimi will leave Lotus while they give him what he wants and the car is competitive. Daniel is the only real option for RBR at the moment although he will never be a top level driver, he is fast enough and consistent enough to contribute the points RBR need for the WCC - as long as Vettel keeps doing his job at the pointy end.

Kimi already has personal sponsorship with Redbull. They funded his WRC playtime.
The relationship goes way beyond a race seat salary.
If Redbull want Kimi, they will get him. They ultimately have more money and a better car.
These factors become even more critical with the 2014 specification changes.

The decision will come down to how Redbull want to play Vettel. Give him total control of the team with true No 1 status (Ferrari style) or match him with someone competitive and mentally tough so if he decides to leave they are still in a strong position.

Kimi will get the job.
Riccardo will have to wait for a year or two more.

@ Wyliecoyote - finally someone agrees with me! Kimi 'no personality' raikkonen. Doesn't want to talk to the media, doesn't want to sign autographs for fans unless he absolutely has too.... Dan however, never stops smiling, better image for redbull.

Kimi was in Daniels boat before Mclaren picked him up in 2002, back then he was no where near as good as he is now as it took a full season at mclaren to get the consistent good results coming.

To say Ricciardo will never be a top driver is quite ignorant, young drivers need time to develop and it comes with experience.
