F1 » Kimi gets 'ten out of ten' from Lotus boss Boullier

With eight podiums from ten races, Lotus F1 boss Eric Boullier has good cause to smile heading into the August summer holiday break.

Especially after all the crap precipitating his leaving F1 before, I'll just become a shameless Kimi nut-hugger and welcome any positive press we see these days. Even if he doesn't win the WDC this year, best driver on the grid, IMO.

I admire this team. After a disastrous 2009 they regrouped very well and demonstrated to the world who's working at Enstone. Renault R30 was awesome in 2010 especially on Kubica's hands. The R31 too was very competitive, it just lacked a driver capable of taking that to the limit and to help developing the car. The E20 of last year was just amazing and now they have the E21 which on race pace often is the fastest car out there. And with Kimi they have the right driver to push the car to the limit, without damaging it.

I never really rated Boullier but he's done a great job with that team so far. I can't imagine that their budget is anywhere near that of Ferrari, RBR or Merc but that's not holding them back at all.
And bringing Kimi back turned out to be an inspired decision.

Kimi had been outstanding in his return to F1. If only his performance could drag a little more $$$$ Lotus' way, then the team could compete with Red Bull and Mercedes on an equal basis.

I think Kimi would give Lotus an 8. Good speed at most circuits, reliability, and decisions on strategy that have rarely cost him. Given their budget Lotus have over-achieved, not that it does much good against the developmental dollars of Ferrari, Mercedes, McLaren and of course Red Bull.

I agree with what pretty much everyone is saying. Budget included, this may be the best team in F1. Who remembers all the brilliant-but-outlawed ideas they've come up with, like the mass damper, and last year's front ride height control? They definitely don't stand still on development.
