'Rush' director Ron Howard believes that F1 can be a hit in his native United States if the audience was exposed to more events.

I guess the time zone thing explains why tennis and golf are so unpopular in the US.
The US audience is simply not sophisticated enough to understand F1. It doesn't have lots of stops (Necessary to pack in loads of adverts), has no drivers in the series, no manufacturer and has had no WDC since the dinosaurs.

I did watch a GP once when SpeedTV ran it. Possibly the worst coverage of a race I have ever seen. Adverts every 15 minutes for 3 or 4 minutes then another 2 minutes to catch up with the action during the ads, then back live for a few minutes before another ad break and so on ad nauseum. Horrible.

Taz probably didn't meet him...

Most fans were probably not even born in 1978 so lets get a bit more up to date... Here is the full list of US F1 champions in the last 34 years :-

And that's it.

I also added all the winning US F1 teams and the current list of US drivers, but you may have missed them. The list is not very long.

mr fill. I think that you would probably find that most TRUE fans of f1 were born BEFORE 1978!

yeah, I know that americans do not have a great record in f1, but there have been some good efforts and some dire ones. but the article is basically about creating public awareness, and for that reason, usa could do with a few more races. then maybe we could see someone of calibre coming from the states?

Excuse me.

I did meet him at a function in lake como (the year there was a monster crash involving DC and the Arrows car and a marshall was killed, 2000?).

The Page & Moy rep (Trev you old perv) who fancied one of the girls I went to Monza with brought him over to meet us. "This is Phill Hill"....blank expressions all round, hadn't heard of him seeing as he was WDC way before I was born. He was a nice guy and talked a bit about his Ferrari days, was a bit merry so can't remember much more about it.

I did meet him though so yah boo sucks mrfill :)
