F1 » Could Button be among Red Bull ‘options’?

Without a contract for next season, Jenson Button has been sucked into the 'silly season' debate for 2014.

the point is that rbr need a solid , reliable and consistent number 2, and they seem to realise that ricciardo does not fit that bill, so as long as there are better drivers available, they will keep their options open, leaving ricciardo as their plan b or c.

If anyone thinks that Button would go to Red Bull and agree to be number 2 you are seriously deluded. He may well go to Red Bull, but he would never agree to be a number 2.

He's a world champion, the most experienced driver in F1 and since getting into a competitive car, has won more races than anyone else on the grid , with the exception of Vettel.

And before all the Button haters out there start yelling from the roof tops how he'd get slaughtered by Vettel, I suggest you check yourselves.

You lot are the same ones who continually tell us that Hamilton is better than Vettel and Button was hardly 'DESTROYED' by Hamilton like you all predicted a few years ago was he?

In fact, if I remember correctly, Button out scored Hamilton during their time as team mates...

bobkp. I am in no way a button hater, but you have to be realistic. being a defacto number 2 to vettel is not a bad place to be. at least you would have a chance at the odd win and second place, rather than the current 6th or worse! button was never an outstanding driver. yes he did win a wdc, but that was by extreme good fortune, nothing else. he was given a car that was blessed with a huge advantage by the fia. when the other teams caught up , he was back to being nowhere. it was only the fact that he built up a good lead when the car had an advantage, that he was able to cling on to his wdc. he of course was assisted by his teammates car which also had the advantage and was able to deny others , points

All of the communications from McLaren have been very complimentary of JB this year and his comments have been supportive of the direction they are headed. With Honda returning I suspect Jenson is excited, as is McLaren. Something would seriously have to go off the rails for him to leave. Interesting that the word is that RB is a done deal. I think RB has its heart set on Kimi and the posturing is about money.

Jenson needs to be in a top class car. Honda may provide the answer, but Red Bull has consistently produced the optimum package year after year. Jenson would thrive and keep Vettel under more pressure than Mark does. I doubt it will happen, but , Jenson would be an asset to RBR or any team.

Hopefully not. He is an average driver that got lucky with a rue change in 2009. Maybe he will get lucky again next year. A lot of the time a clever driver but not one of the greats. He spends too much time these days complaining, rather than getting on with it. Hamilton does not have a great car but he is putting his heart into it rather than whinging.

He is not in the same league as Vettel, Alonso, Raikkinen or Hamilton...................
