F1 » Clearly something went wrong, admits Alonso.

Ninth and tenth on the grid for the Belgian GP is certainly not what Ferrari was hoping for at Spa, and Fernando Alonso admitted that something had gone wrong for the team on Saturday.

The main thing that went wrong is that you weren't last to start a flying lap.

Oh wait I got that wrong, the main thing that went wrong is that you weren't possessed by Senna's ghost, it was apparently busy somewhere else!

He just set his time to late. Remember that the Bulls and Hamilton were behind him but they still could run another lap, so they managed to get to the top three. I don't believe that Ferrari isn't competitive here and I am confident they will be competitive at Monza as well. But after that...

Massa was the second to set a time.... but he did so with fuel for only one lap. He was actually second after all cars set their first times.
But it was a terrible mistake, just terrible choice. He had to bring the car in and watch the others improve, sucking his fingers like a baby in the crib.
Horrible, stupid mistake.

From what I saw the weather played the most part in his result. The Ferrari looked pretty damn competitive, especially compared to previous races. He would have been competing for the front two rows at least, looking at Q1 and Q2.

As has been said before last to cross the line with the track getting dryer by the second was going to take pole! FA will be fast come race day there's no doubt about that but so will SV.

The rain also showed up different setup directions.

At Spa you can either set the car up best for sector 1 & 3 with less downforce / more top end speed & sacrifice some time in sector 2 ... or visa versa.

However, the wet conditions gave an advantage to the teams that went for the optimum setup in sector 2 with more downforce.
