F1 » Ricciardo pleased to salvage a point at Spa

Toro Rosso's Daniel Ricciardo was delighted to slip into the points late in the Belgian Grand Prix, especially after the rain on Saturday meant he started from 19th place on the grid.

Great job by Dan, shown why he deserves that Redbull seat. Sure without those couple of retirements in Kimi and Paul he probably wouldn't of finished in the points, but he had to put himself in a position to benefit from them. Interesting comments from Mark before about the 2nd Redbull seat...

mntox. I presume that your silly comment was aimed at me, so here goes.

I never have said that jev should get the rbr seat! in fact, I said that neither driver deserves the seat. what I have said is that vergne is he faster racer. and if you followed fp and listened to the commentaries then, and in fact yesterday, you would have heard brundle, dc etc all saying that jev was the faster and they expected him to be in q3! and in fact, towards the end of the race, jev was ahead of dr, but dr was on newer tyres and got past. otherwise they were pretty well matched!

as regards webbers remark, both rbr and dr have denied it. dr is the plan b or c, but is not plan a.

I think the decision on Daniel has been made, but since DM is away on vacation they were not aloud to announce it. Presumably it would be pretty poor form to announce it before the boss has signed off on the paperwork.

RBR have more than enough money and more than enough form to attract someone like Kimi if they really want him.

My comment wasnt just aimed at you Richard, but yes you do love to tell us how the aussies are not good enough for the RB seat, so you can take from that what you will. Dan has qualified his car sometimes up to a second faster than his teammate Richard, thats a spanking, and he's finished more races in front of his teammate so how you can say Vergne is the faster racer overall baffles me. Vergne has more points but they are from fewer race finishes, which just means he's had the odd race where things have gone his way. DR ran most of the race on harder tyres on the weekend (which were slower), and then changed to the options and passed his teammate on the way to points from 19th. I dont know what else the guy has to do to convince his doubters. They always say its easier to teach a fast guy to be a little conservative at times than to teach a slow guy how to be fast, and qualifying is about outright speed, unlike the races these days which are tyre conservation races.
