F1 » Button: We gave it a go

Jenson Button tried to defy his own pre-race prediction that a podium was out of reach in Belgium, but had to accept the inevitable as his strategy came up short.

he finished around 30 seconds ahead of force india, the teams nearest rival in the constructors table, and ahead of grosjeans lotus, the teams next target in the wcc. jb is proving to be the best of those in cars outside the top four, and as good as/better than some employed by the top four

It would be great if Button finished third. A podium would be a relief for McLaren. I guess that next years they will get many of them. McLaren is a top team and I am confident that next year they will bounce back.

What gives a driver credentials is when he can lift a team up from a bad season and start showing signs that there could be some good results in the not to distant future.

If McLaren can end the season strongly and have a fantastic 2014 then I think Jenson will have played a very strong part in the moral and driving (motivation) force within the team.

Well said Liam, the last time McLaren built a pup their lead driver asked "can I park this thing?" they must be delighted now to have a genuine F1 driver behind the wheel who can lead the team to better things rather than a prima donna who cared only about himself.

I've said this before about JB, always positive regardless of the situation. It's guys like this that really do give the team a much needed boost to keep giving their all.

Sadly, it's guys like his team mate that can deflate that confidence.

We all know McLaren are winners - they too will bounce back to their competitive form.

One of my recent favourite radio transmissions was from Jens when Lewis was coming to challenge ... 'do we fight, do we fight?'

'Yes, Jenson' was the reply. Though it was in vein - it was just one of those fist pumping moments when you, as a spectator, just say ' Go on boy !!!'

Ahh Jamal, you never fail do you.

I suggest you do a little research on the 2009 season. The car that Hamilton eventually won races in was a very different beast to the one he started the season in. It was also no different to all the other cars on the grid, McLaren just didn't have a handle on it.

This year's McLaren is something all together different from anything else on the grid.

You seem to have some serious delusions about your little hero. I suggest searching YouTube for the radio communication between Lulu and the pit wall during the 2009 Turkish GP.

It was simply him moaning that the car totally sucked, he couldn't keep up with a Renault and that if they wanted him to win they would need to build him a new car - which they did.

Truly a spoiled little turd!
