F1 » Perez ‘a marked man’, claims Whitmarsh

Martin Whitmarsh reckons that, without a 'harsh' drive-thru' penalty, Sergio Perez could have made it two McLarens in the points at Spa-Francorchamps.

Agree with Gilles. If anything Perez has been spared so far on a number of occassions where a penalty would have been warranted but he escaped it.

Today the stewards just couldn't get away with not giving a penalty, especially as the move was on Grosjean so the double standard would have been painfully obvious.

At least he admits it was his fault, he can understand what might have been wrong. But I really think that his teammanager should defending this kind of ****.
If it were the other way round, I am sure Whitmarsh would scream for a Grosjean race ban.

Perez was at fault and received the same penalty that others have received for the same move. Period. Maldonado's penalty is not so clear cut as it appears on the replay that his car veers only after receiving wing damage from a touch. Have to watch it again.

When Sam Michael was interviewed at the end of the race, he didn't have a problem with the punishment given to Perez. But obviously Whitmarsh disagrees. And Perez initially said he didn't do anything wrong.
