Taipan, the fact is that Bernie and the boys wanted to spice up F1 ala Nascar. Hence the spec rules for tighter racing and such. Another thing on the agenda to spice up the show was to get the drivers more engaged with the fans. You belittle exactly what F1 is trying to accomplish. Even the podium interviews iare an attempt to draw in this FANBOY fan base. You knock a good driver all because he draws a rabid fan base. Its the new F1. Vettel dyed his hair blond but yet nothing from you on that front.

I'm sorry to throw my hat into the ring on this, but kiwibob, please, if you have REALLY been watching F1 for 30 years, I know I have, plus more - there is no way you can honestly say that in the entire era of Awesomeness prior to Mr. Hamilton, that he can be of the TOP 4 ... from all the madness??? I think he is a very good talent - when the timing is right ... but top 4?

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, as you yourself has suggested .... but I am somewhat miffed from someone, that has witnessed so many era's, simply forgets the lunacy the drivers of the past endured - and for the most part, conquered.

Even Lewis himself called guys from the Senna era "Crazy" on a Top Gear Episode - and those guys drove 10/10ths all the time.

One should not forget how great the drivers of the past were - especially in a modern day comparison.

@BedPan, you really should ask your self why you delight in putting other people down.

As for the race, it's pretty clear Vettel and Fernando had stronger motors, its been that way for a while, even last year at COTA Lewis could not catch Vettel down the straight, Merc might have had the fastest motor back in the day, but the times have changed and most often its Alonso and then Vettel with the best HP figures.

As for this race, Vettel lost 90% of his superior momentum after the race up the hill before he passed lewis, vettel passed Lewis on shear grunt, surprising how people will keep repeating the same lines on TV when the evidence is clear that Vettel had to slow down go around and then speedup to pass Lewis, but still did it with ease.

Merc need to invest in a good low drag setup, thats what killed them this race, then they need to look at beefing up their motor and getting some more joules out of their KERS units.

Some people that persist in pretending to be following F1 racing matters will never cease to impress by expressing their total stupidity on these pages.
Now we are being told that the 2.4L Mercedes V8 engine went from the most powerful to the least powerful, this means it happened while the F1 engines development are supposed to be frozen.
Also with the FIA engine development freeze and all and most stupidly for what's left of the season which is the last one for this engine Mercedes is (again) stupidly being told they need to beef-up their motor.
And this stupidity doesn't end there Mercedes is also being told that (regardless of the FIA KERS specifications) they need to get more joules (spells power) out of their KERS.

Now that the race is over, we could go back to FP2, where we saw that the Merc's struggled in the dry. The Merc's went for a setup leaning more to a wet race, that is why they dominated every time the track got wet. Hamilton got pole that why to.

So the character of a person defies what driver he is?

MCXmerc, For a mathematical genius you don't half talk some garbage.

Vettel lost 90% of his superior momentum to pass Lulu?? Momentum is the combination of weight and velocity so did he get 90% slower or did he lose 90% of the cars weight? That would be quite a diet!

As for Merc needing to beef up their engine and get more joules out of their KERS unit, that would be called cheating and they'd get banned then you'd really have something to cry about!

ty. maybe merc need to turbocharge their engine, as even the 20bhp advantage they have at present is not enough?

funny though, I never hear calls for Renault to be allowed to beef up their engines.
