He's looking for sponsors (doesn't want to put in anymore money) and a technical partner (sell some of the team to get some money back).

I'm sure he's not expecting to write off 120 million debt.

Mixed signals.

Could be the reason behind Raikkonen being "determined" to leave the team. He can probably see that the budget is not in place for the coming season to keep the team in it's current lead pack position.

Is Kimi determined to leave the team? All we've heard from Kimi is he doesn't want to rush into any decisions. The press have taken that, made up a load of unfounded stories on how he's leaving for every team and made this more boring that constantly talking about tyres.

That was just a direct quote from what Mr Whitmarsh had said. I'm not sure that Whitmarsh would be the best source of Raikkonen based information, however you would think that IF Kimi did want to stay with the team he would have signed long before now, if anything just to stop the constant questioning over the matter from the press at every opportunity. His hesitation to sign suggests that he isn't fully happy with the finer details that he see's for next season.... In my humble opinion of course.

On another Lotus note, just reading Kimi's brake duct was blocked by a tearoff. I was thinking why not stack a series of 'arrowhead' deflectors in front of small air inlets. If the camera lens can clear itself, you would think F1 would come up with technology to prevent rubbish from foiling a WDC.

walrus. the camera is protected by a movable clear film. but the brake duct cannot have a solid film in front of it, otherwise air would not get into the duct. some teams did try a fine grille, but of course debris could still block that.

I seem to remember that when tear offs began to be used, there was a rule that they could only be removed in the pit lane, where someone could collect it. now you see drivers tearing the strips off, everywhere on the track.

of course, it will be only a matter of time before teams will use these to their advantage, and a driver in the lead, will be throwing them out of the cockpit as another car gets near him!

Of course the camera was just an analogy, and the screen would be blocked as well, I was just thinking out loud that the best engineers in the world should be able to outsmart a paper bag or a tear off. Another thought, the angled lattices protecting dirt bike radiators. If a sportsmen class guy like me can imagine it a pro should design an build it.
