a bit late giving nikki an ward for when he was wdc. I don't know the criteria for this award, but I would not think that getting lulu to sign for merc and being gifted a directorship because of that, would be reason for a special award

Great stuff this man is a three times WDC and seems to know his stuff when making comments on F1 and his part In the acquisition of Lewis was masterful taking the then Mclaren number one driver away from not only a team that was stronger than Mercedes but a team according to Whitmarsh which was going to make him the highest paid on the grid. Lauda I salute you.

Watched clip of Ron Howards movie about Nikki and Hunt and it made Lauda out to be very arrogant hope that was not the case.

lleone. dennis said, yesterday, that macca did NOT try to stop lulu going to merc. it had nothing to do with money.

as for lauda being arrogant? because german language and cuture is rather hard, it often gives a wrong impression of their character. schumi was blamed for it, mass was blamed for it, vettel is blamed for it, and even the german teams such as audi and merc (the real one) were always being classed as cold and emotionless.

I here you Richard, but I think I will take the word of the current McLaren team principal the one who dealt with the Lewis negotiations over Ron Dennis's who has not had a good record when it comes to telling the truth, and poor old Ron must be hurting even more now that Lewis's achievements have exceeded what most at McLaren expected with most saying it was a mistake him leaving McLaren to go to Mercs.

As for the Germanic issue I have not met many but do know them to be single minded , efficient methodical hence them being very successful at sports.

lleone, another new name rgt?

frankly I would accept the word of the team owner. he is the one who would be holding the purse strings! ther had been a falling out between lulu and dennis, look at the things he says in his statement!
you can hold on to your belief that lulu was controlling the price, but he wasn't ! macca were not bothered with losing him, unsurprisingly. coming 4 or 5 in wdc was not what they were paying him for!

ps, its il leone, unless you are calling yourself after miss lewis......... wow, thas clever!

Here is my favorite Lauda quote.

"What Hamilton did there goes beyond all boundaries," Lauda said during his commentary on RTL television. "He is completely mad.

"If the FIA does not punish him, I do not understand the world any more. At some point there has to be an end to all the jokes. You cannot drive like this - as it will result in someone getting killed."

Richard, Ileone = Mansell = RGT

I was going to say earlier that it's been really pleasant on Crash recently, just normal F1 fans having some chat with no trolls or fanboys being idiotic. It would be great if it could stay like that...

Don't worry, once Lewis drags that 'slow' Mercedes to pole on Saturday they will be back in force. That is until he fails to convert that to the top step on Sunday once again.
