In the end of the day, Ferrari needs Alonso as much as Alonso needs Ferrari. Unless Lotus or (to an even higher degree) Williams pull out a miracle and develop a decent car for next year, there's no other team for Alonso to race but Ferrari... yes, he could go back to Lotus and get the results Kimi is getting this year, give or take. But that would free Kimi to move back to Ferrari and in the end everything would be the same as before pretty much.
Lotus needs Alonso's money more than Ferrari but that's not to say that Ferrari doesn't need it.

Alonso will have his tantrums and Ferrari will call him out on them... but there's no other driver for them out there at the moment if they let him go. Maybe in 2-3 years time, but not now. Hulk has potential as do a couple of others but it's all too little all too soon.

to those who keep saying that massa is past it....I reckon that today shows that you are talking out of your nether regions. flip matched ferdi lap for lap, and probably would have been ahead of him, but for team orders

Judging by the race I thought Massa might have saved it again at this important race for Ferrari but then his interview after the race I got an uneasy feeling that something was up...Massa wasn't his usual self effacing self, touting his own horn a bit, talking about other teams noticing his talent and saying the only problem was the pitstop and that he otherwise drove a really good race...Then redirecting the question about his future to EJ in a passive aggresive manner.

Personally I like Massa but my viewpoint is both Massa and Ferrari need a change. Massa has nothing to gain fighting for the odd podium anymore and having to make way for FA, while for Hulk that may be a welcome step up with an eye to the future. Alternatively if they want to reign in FA a bit they could also send him a message by signing Kimi. Massa can then show us what he's got at another team.

@JJJ
I agree with your assessment of Massas post race interview(Sky F1), I got the exact same feeling. I think he already know that he is out of Ferrari. Though I have always liked him and I think he should be kept in the sport.

I think Ferrari signing Raikkonen would be great. Him and Alonso would push each other like crazy and extract every single thousand of second possible. Maybe Lotus can then grab Massa as their number 1 driver and switch Grosjean out(he is not bad but for some reason I don't think he deserves such a good car) . Not sure if DiResta has a contract for next year? Id love to see him in a better car.. Mas+Dir would be really cool IMHO.

Oh and keeping Alonso is a 'no brainer' really. I love Ferrari but during the last few years, Alonso HAS been bigger than the team, and he is entitled to be disappointed.
