Before we get more "Vergne deserved it more" rubbish. Daniel thrashed him in the 2008 Formula Renault 2.0 West European Championship and the 2008 and the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup series. He won the 2009 British Formula 3 Championship. He thrashed Vergne again in the 2010 World Series by Renault 3.5 Championship. He has finished ahead of Vergne in far more F1 races than the other way around. He was Red bull's No 1 choice from the beginning and he did not get the seat because others were unavailable. He will surprise Vettel and be a contender.

Wylie, You might think Dan has finished ahead of JEV in far more races but I think it's a hell of a lot closer than you may think. I have to go to a meeting but I'll supply some facts later.

ty. correct. there were comparative figures about a month ago on two of the other main sites. apart from quali, vergne equalle or was better than Daniel on finishing positions, laps ahead, places gained etc etc, and this was despite jev having fewer races due to dnfs.
if you read the f1 tech forum, most of the posters there put jev ahead.

wylie. funny, before you brought it up, nobody had mentioned jev! and as for who was better in other formulae, what has that to do with it? there are many drivers who bombed in other formulae, but have shown the way in f1, and vice versa. and from memory, wasn't jev likely to win in his last formula, before being forced off the road by frijns?

In all the races these 2 drivers have competed in together in F1

Qual Ricciardo 23 Vergne 9

Higher Race position Ricciardo 10 Vergne 9

Points Ricciardo 28 Vergne 29

I would say Ricciardo wins this one

Webber is talking too much in the last four weeks. He should concentrate about winning at least one race this season as he has done every year since 2009. He should't think so much about Riccardo. Vettel will thrash him also.

I still haven't time to look into the facts but even using Mikes figures after 32 races together Dan has finished ahead on one more occasion than JEV and scored less points than him.

Yet you're all agreeing with comments suggesting he's finished ahead in "far more races"

As I've said plenty of times before I have nothing against Ricciardo at all but there is a certain whiff of fanboyism surrounding him (not his fault) and that does get on my tits. It's all a bit like Lulu destroying Alonso in 2007 (tied on points) or Lulu thrashing Button last year (by 2 points)
Some objectivity surrounding the young fellows achievements in F1 so far would be nice, because whatever way you look at it JEV and Ricciardo have been bloody closely matched.

mike. you are right. as I said "from memory"....but it was wickens who was the culprit.

doesn't alter y points though.

ty. remember that vergne was heading for best str placing last year when he was mounted by schumi? and Daniel has clashed a few times with jev, handing him a handicap or a dnf. and further, as I pointed out, prior to Monza, jev had 4 dnfs so far this year whilst dr had one.
so in reality, if you go by stats, other than quali, jev leads dr. and before all the usuals jump down my throat, I am not saying that either jev or dr deserve the rbr drive.
