Jenson Button suggests that an additional 10kg on the minimum F1 weight limit could help bigger drivers remain viable in the 2014 'silly season' market.

Not bring a ***** but if next year's cars are going to put an added emphasis upon driver weight then the drivers that are significantly over the minimum ought to consider losing weight.

Imagine if James Toseland had gone into MotoGP and said that the minimum weight has to go up because he's currently at a disadvantage. He'd have been told to sod off. Instead, he lost weight (where from I'll never know).

Mrfill, that sounds a bit drastic, I thought he'd start with shaving the "beard" removing the hair plugs and dumping the ear jewels, I'm sure that would add up to a similar weight to his nuts.

Taipan, he is sure to have weighted his nuts very carefully and yes the weight bridge read exactly 6kg, and that's what will have to come off to get himself down from 71 to 65kg, everything else that people can visually see will stay put.

An F1 car without ballast weighs around 450-500Kg so the ballast must be in the region of 100-150Kg.
Plenty of scope there to trim a few kilo.


Good job Montoya is not in F1 any more...

Sure cars at the moment need ballast to bring them up to the minimum weight but with next seasons massive regulation changes the cars will struggle to make the combined driver and car limit. An increase in KERS availability and power will require far bigger batteries to store the energy in (or what ever next generation medium is used) heat based energy recovery systems will also add weight. There are also tougher crash test regs that will also add a bit of mass to the cars.

It is a good job that for 2014 the minimum weight limit for driver and car is 690kg instead of the current 642kg
