F1 » Lotus plays down row over 'team orders'

The Lotus F1 team has insisted that all is well within the team and with Romain Grosjean despite an emotional exchange between the driver and pit wall over his request to be allowed to pass his team mate.

Grosjean deserved 2nd place, and Kimi lucked in with the pacecar. It was good opportunist driving by Kimi, and RG must learn from that. It does smack a little if there were orders at that point to not fight, but RG opened the door too much with his error.
I hope Lotus treat RG well and he gets another go next year, as he has great potential and is a decent sportsman.
Next weekend guys, move up to the top step!

Brundle mentioned about a radio message from Permayne saying "smile on the podium, we'll speak later" which is not mentioned in this article but does sound like a call to the Headmasters study...

Kind of stupid for GroJo to expect team orders in his favour. Kimi does still have a very tiny chance at the championship and if Lotus had given Kimi the call to let GroJo pass he'd probably say sore back, no wages sod it I'll stay at home for the rest of the season.

Still a good performance by Lotus and both their drivers.

Boullier must ensure that both drivers keeps scoring as many points possible, it doesn't matter who scores more at the moment. Neither Kimi, nor Romain isn't going to win the drivers championship this year. Even if both drivers can still beat their respective collegues of Scuderia Ferrari, Lotus is not going to earn money from that, excluding the fact that this might lure more sponsors. But Lotus can still beat Ferrari and Mercedes in the Constructors Championship, this must be their target, there is a lot of money on that. So is very important to score good points with both their drivers.

Agreed, Lotus need as much out of the remainder of the season in order to survive financially and Kimi has a miniscule chance of catching up on points probably based on Vettel being kidnapped by Aliens, but not being a betting man, I dread to think what the odds are!!!

Yes Grosjeans mistake cost him a 2nd place, but he still finished higher than 19 other drivers so he is doing a great job! Brundle said that the team wanted Grosjean to get past, as they were telling him to push and try to overtake Raikkonen. He said they wanted him to beat Raikkonen because he is leaving the team, and they want sponsors to see that they have a driver that can beat a world champion. Oh well, that's how it is I guess, keep your head down Grosjean and good things will come.

Team orders are just a tool. Grosjean put in a heck of a drive today and I am sure it was a tough pill to swallow but he got outfoxed on the restart and it cost him position. Had he been in front of Kimi at the time would there have been orders to pull over?
