Sergio Perez says he will 'push like crazy' to secure a strong result in the Japanese Grand Prix

@BT33

They chose Perez over Hulkenberg because Perez got 3 podiums last year and Hulkenberg got 0. And judging by the race on Sunday it looks like Hulkenberg is probably in a better car. Well even if the Sauber isn't as good as the Mclaren, at least Hulkenberg finished higher than both of them anyway.

I can't wait to see who's method is better out of Perez and Trulli. Trulli uses the "Pushing like a hell" but Perez will be "Pushing like crazy" :p

I think Perez has been pretty poor this year overall and not the class of driver McLaren....used to have. Expected more of him even in a pretty poor car.

"Pushing like crazy" means "I'll hit whoever I can"

Taz, Agreed, I expected a lot more from him this season, the car has been garbage but he's been just as bad.

I don't see much point in McLaren keeping him on for another year, he's had a chance and shown very little. Worse than that he's shown no signs of improving.

@Tai

I think Whitmarsh must take some of the blame. He told him to be more aggresive on track and filled his head with nonsence and Perez followed his instructions to the letter and then some.

Taz, I think it also highlights the lack of depth of talent in F1 at the moment. Perez got parachuted into McLaren based on only 2 or 3 good drives last season.

Next season could see only Rosberg (and Maldonado but that was a one off) as a non WDC race winner, all the talent is at the top and there's very little coming through. Hulk looks to be the best of the bunch but even he hasn't been consistently outstanding. Remember Vettel, Alonso, Schumacher, Senna, Prost etc all looking like outstanding talents right from day one regardless of the car. Vettel appeared 7 years ago where's the successors? Is this the consequence of having pay drivers filling half the grid?

@Taipan

I think the 2012 Sauber been very kind on it's tyres and Perez's decent tyre management flattered how good he was. Like Maldernado there's huge question marks over his ability to race cleanly/safely and that's not really good enough in F1.

I think your spot on about pay drivers, Maldernado brings 45 million in sponsorship although I suspect that's coming to an end after Chavez threw a seven!

Taz, Maldonado was saying just yesterday that he's not interested in staying around in F1 if he's going to be running around at the back, he thinks he deserves a top car. But as you say the end of Chavez could change everything for him, be careful what you wish for Pastor.

Talking of talent, or lack of it have a look at GPToday, an interview with Taki Inoue where he says he's definitely one of the worst F1 drivers ever, was regularly 2-5 seconds off his team mate, didn't know what a pitstop was at his first race and never overtook a single car during his F1 career. Got to love his honesty!
There's also a comical video of when the safety car ran him over!

All I have to say is that if McLaren stick with Perez then they'll have cocked up for the second year in a row. He lacks the race craft and class required for a top team and deserves to be in a mid-runner.
