Mark Webber claims first pole of 2013 - and for more than a year - by pipping team-mate Sebastian Vettel to top spot in Japan.

Good to see the old boy still got it. Hulkenberg impressing once again. Pity for the Toro Rosso guys there were looking decent throughout practice. Bring on tomorrow.

There's one driver though who is missing from that list. Kamui Kobayashi :'(

Even without a Japanese driver on the grid, the Japanese fans still love the racing! Did anybody else see that girl with the cap that had the RB9 on it? Also, I just loved how quickly the marshals got onto that fire of Vergne's car. It shows that they know what they're doing unlike marshals at, well we know where.

Great to see Webber where he belongs - in front of Vettel.

Just in case you are wondering why I said that - check this out...

I've done some calculations and weight corrected, Webber out qualifies Vettel 11 to 4 this year!

People write Webber off because Vettel is killing him in qualifying but people forget that Webber is 16-17kg HEAVIER than Vettel!!!!

He's losing over half a second PER lap due to extra weight! Work it out and Webber is kicking Vettel's butt in qualifying 11-4!

Vettel is great, no doubt, but when you are by far and away the lightest driver on the grid, it makes it a bit easier. Also makes you look more impressive against one of the heaviest on the grid!

Well, Bobkp wins the "egg-on-your-face" award for October.

The issue about the difference in weight that you've been reading about is a 2014 problem Bob.
For 2013 all car / driver combinations weigh exactly the same.

You'll never get back the time you spent on that pointless maths ...
