Yes Nicky.... IF Honda allow you to exploit them (Doubtful if it looks like you could pass a Repsol with an Aspar).

Yes Nicky.... inevitable IMO that the loony spending on pneumatics and tech MUST be curbed. So Honda are spending big and spending early to make sure their dominance in the Open class is set in stone from day 1.

In fact if Dorna keep allowing HRC to buy MotoGP like they are, the above statement might just be 100% true as there won't BE any other bike's other than Honda's on the grid.

Question will be what will HRC do then once there's no-one to race against? Keep spending, or declare victory and leave MotoGP high & dry?

Honda can afford to sell RCV's to teams like Aspar at a loss to ensure they supply a better and bigger package and ensure they dominate Open Class. Yam, Ducati & Aprilia cannot do that, so a private team really has only one choice, and Honda know it (as does Dorna & anyone with a brain).

Its great PR for the (ignorant) world-at-large to see that all the customer teams want a Honda, right?

Honda are slowly asphyxiating their opponents AND MotoGP with relentless financial pressure - they are simply making it too expensive for anyone to compete with them.

Dorna (instead of preventing it) actually seem to be facilitating Honda's total domination.

Q. Can this be good for Grand Prix racing?

A. No.

Just a reminder TalentFan, Honda are likely to have 3 (three) riders championships in 10 years at the end of the season.
Your view of domination is somewhat skewed.
Now, Ducati may have knowingly sent Aprilia to the wall. I know of around $20M they could have spent more wisely in '11 and '12, so remind me again who the manipulators are?
The customer RCV may just save the day.

I know the stats. But that just means that HRC's vast investment either wasn't maximised, OR that its just taken them a very long time to get it perfected. The fact that they only have a 3 in 10 hit-rate proves nothing.

Right now the tech regs play fully to ALL of HRC's advantages in monstrous budgets and aquired data and gives them an enormous advantage over Yamaha, and a monumental advantage over everyone else.

Gigi can't overcome HRC for Ducati.

The customer RCV won't save the day IMO. It WILL freeze out avenues for ANY other Mfr to get a foothold in the Open class. Honda have bought their way to domination - they have won there already without turning a wheel.

In 2013 and 2014 Honda will sweep all before them - everyone else is just the supporting act.

Ducati shot themselves in the foot thinking that a rider (Rossi) and crew chief (JB) could turn them around.

Now, they must have spent big to tempt Gigi to defect from Aprilia. This at least is on paper a better strategy. No doubt this has damaged Aprilia in MGP, but I don't think THAT was Ducati's motivation - just a side-effect.

In any case, the problem remains the same for all.... Dorna provide a platform where Honda can exploit their disproportionately vast resource advantage to gain unassailable advantages.

No-one can beat Honda if it comes down to spending power (and it does). Better to give HRC all the 2014 trophies right now and save all the inconvenience of actually demonstrating the inevitable IMO.

I agree with you, Mats. That's going to be the interesting part. If they do no updates of their own, I think it will be slim pickings for them.

It just depends on the contract with Honda. I'm sure there is some clause about a penalty for modifying the bike - maybe less updates from HRC, then? That would be likely, no?

It will be fun to see though, that's for sure.

You don't see the main point even though you are stating it yourself in every second sentence.

It's not a 'Spendathon'...
It's a motorcycle championship and in the last decade, Yamaha have won twice the number of titles as Honda.

Try telling HRC its not a 'Spendathon' - not me. I'm not making it up that HRC have a budget and resources vastly bigger than Yamaha am I?

All you proved with your last post is that Yamaha did a much more effective job with rather a lot less money. That means kudos to Yamaha for getting a great return on investment rather than suggesting that Honda didn't spend loads while not being as successful.

But... HRC have kept bludgeoning away (financially & politically as well as with the tech/engineering) and now have ALL their little ducks in a row. Also the arena Dorna provide actually ring-fences HRC's advantages.

This is why HRC will walk 2013 and will stroll 2014 - the past results don't influence that.
