Personally think thats a bit previous and Perez didnt do that bad a job in a midfield quality car. Lets hope for Mclarens sake that Magnussen is substantially better than Button otherwise they will look a bit stupid.

I think this is all part of Mclarens plan for 2015, they've got Redbulls aero man already, Ross Brawn must be favourite to go to Mclaren for 2015 hopefully with Alonso as NO1. I t looks like 2014 will be a shoot out to see who will be Alonso's partner in 2015. Button's going to have to get his qualifying sorted because it will be last chance saloon time for him.

Wow if this true you have to feel for Sergio. He hasn't had the best year but Mclaren hasn't exactly given him a front running car... If they are pointing the finger at Perez for the poor results maybe they should look at replacing button too, he hasn't exactly set the world on fire either.

Considering Button has scored nearly DOUBLE the points of Perez I'd say he's done a pretty good job!

Honestly, for 3 years Button was right up Hamilton's chuff and actually outscored him in then end, is now out scoring his new team mate by nearly double and yet you lot still tell us that he is no good.

Honestly, when will it end?

I think McLaren were unable to place Magnussen with another team as they ramp up for 2015. So, they have made the decision to bring him onboard now and hopefully they will be clear to him and to the press what the expectations will be for year one. Already you see comments that he should beat Button, whereas Perez never, and Hamilton was really only on even terms with JB. Not fair goals for a rookie.

Contrary to what many think the mclaren financial status might be, it could as well be that Perez's backers have changed alliance once more, my line of thinking is, mclaren know more or less what they had in Perez but they cannot be sure of what they are going to have re the new driver unless his bag is more full than Perez' bag. The reasoning that they are planning a driver line up for 2015 by this move is BS.

Not surprised Perez has been dropped, 2014 is clearly a transition year for McLaren so it make sense to try Magnussen out as they couldn't get him in to force India.

Interesting they've delayed their sponsorship announcement, I guess a deal with Telmex fell through, without Carlos Slim's dollars Perez was always on a shaky peg.

I do feel Whitmarsh mismanaged Perez though, he told Perez to go out there and be aggressive and Perez followed his instructions to the letter.

perez moved to mclaren and encountered a car worse than the one he had been driving the previous year. his benchmark was an ex world champion who also happens to be the 'most experienced' driver on the grid. the team have also managed (pushed by the media) to let the change slip out in the lead up to what amounts to a home race for perez, looking out to see some mclaren personnel squirm in austin. good luck to kevin magnussen next year.

Yeah so if they make a crap car as well next year are they just going to throw away Magnussen too? They expected too much from a driver in his first year at a team, up against a world champion, and in a bad car. Even though Button is ahead on points, this time last year he'd won 2 races and had being on the podium 3 times more. Now he is fighting with Force India's for the final points.

@Taz if your boss told you to go out and do your job aggressively I doubt you would then start pushing colleagues around or getting into silly fights with them. Aggressive does not equal unproductive if it is done correctly.
