He really has to hope that because if next season is anything like this last one it will be the beginning of the end for Button. He would be 34 by then and if anybody heard what Mark Webber said about getter older you will know what I mean. Button needs next year's Mclaren to be 100% from the off and he will have to improve his qualifying as well. I don't think either of these things are likely to happen overnight and as it's pretty obvious that Mclaren want Alonso for 2015 presumably as a direct replacement for Button. He will have to look elseware for a drive. He has said that he want's to end his career at Mclaren but that is not how things work in F1. Alonso will cost big money and Button's salary is far too high for what he delivers in terms of race wins so I see him going to one of the mid grid teams if he wants to carry on. Personally I believe he should take a leaf out of Webber's book.

Jenson has never been motivated by money. Hes with Maclaren because he has the perfect image. Polite, humble and a good role model. The Japanese have always loved him and that includes Honda so don't write him off yet, Maclaren need to priortise their F1 team now the sports car is up and running and employ the best people....after Adrian Newey!!!

@Piercarlogassolini
Building a new car takes resources and time that they didn't have. What I think they should have done was to simply go back to the 2012 car but for whatever reason they didn't.

@ Piercarlogassolini

I think they should really have reverted to the 2012 car and cut their losses.

There are no issues with Jenson's race winning ability. He proved that last year, and 2011. And the pope himself couldn't make this year's car win. He still beat the Mercs and the Ferrari's a few times too.

@rob01

he doesn't have a signed contact now. mclaren proposing paycut for new contract.

How do you know this?

I would guess that Mac wants him when the Honda power unit comes along as Honda love Jenson. If Magnusson is any good, how about a swap for him and Alonso for 2015 ?

@Jayne

"Hes with Maclaren because he has the perfect image"

When has McLaren ever been concerned about image?

McLaren has signed most of the brats in F1 from James Hunt all the way down to Lewis!

@Nick

"He still beat the Mercs and the Ferrari's a few times too."

Force India, Sauba or STR all beat both Ferrari and Merc in some races. The fact that he claimed at the begining of the season that this is the best McLaren car since 2010, makes you wonder whether he is been serious or he is trying to take a swipe at someone. If am correct in 2009 when Lewis's moaning became unbearable and it was Whitmarsh first year as a team principle, so upgrades were been added to the cars at an alarming rate, some suggested that Lewis was built a new car. But in 2013 Button accepted it, saying it is what it is and accepted it, Alonson said he wants a new car. Am sorry unless McLaren build a car thats 2 secs faster than the rest, McLaren wont win anything
