Renault won both the first and last race of the 2.4 litre V8 era, which were won by Alonso and Vettel, it should also be noted that at both the above mentioned races Button finished in fourth place.

reports that mercedes were suprised to hear that ferrari have been (apparently) testing their V6 in the back of a road car as they (Mercedes) havent got the facilities for such testinv.
in addition to the above post renault also won the final championships of the V10 era.

red. Renault have also been testing their v6 tubo in the back of a formula Renault 3.5 car. merc could well test their engine in an old f1 car if they so wished, or of course, they could purchase any other rear engine car if they wanted to. but I would like to see them use one of their own rear engine cars. wouldn't a smart go pretty well?
