Omah, The use of customer cars (proper customer cars, which to me means cars that can be bought and are ready to be raced) has not yet been approved. What has the blessing of the powers that be are those so called garagesty, the ones that puts a car together from parts mostly made by others and go racing.

This is in theory a good idea but it smacks a bit of panic at the thought that some of the current teams will not survive until then. They must ensure that any new teams coming in are not doing so on a shoestring and have a financial plan that ensures that they survive. I don't believe customer cars would work, F1 cars are nowdays built around the engine that they have agreed to use, you can't buy a Redbull and stick a Mercedes/Ferrari engine in it, it won't work. OK you could buy a Redbull and keep a Renault engine but it would be last years and out of date. You just have to look at lap times to see that a year old car is going to be off the pace. It might be cheaper that building your own car but would the results be any better, I doubt it! I'm all for having more teams but they have to be able to produce competitive cars and unless they have a suitable budget they will just spend a few seasons competing with Marussia and Caterham which will do F1 no favours at all. Even manufacturer

Windy shouldn't have sold the fridge and the PC with a copy of AutoCAD, he'd be ready to start a team again.

Doubtless Craig Pollock and JV will claim they are starting a super team too, Stefan F1 business plan will be getting the front page date changed and resubmitted.

I can't wait

teams such as BMW and Toyota struggled and they had virtually unlimited resources. This needs some real thought but I don't think that will happen they will just grab anyone who comes along because they suddenly have too few teams. I hope common sense prevails but I somehow doubt it.

Taz, Windy will claim that his new car can be ready by....oh next Tuesday. Pollock's super car might take a bit longer, but it will be producing 1800bhp running on straight cat piss, a sure championship winner.
Also looking forward to Rubens offering to team up with JV to create the greatest pairing since Torvill and Dean!

Theoldgid, the new for 2014 FIA regulations paved the way a lot smother for the adaptation of any of the present engines on the grid to go into any chassis (again) on the grid, Down to the spacing's/number and size of the mounting bolts of engine to bulkhead and also of transmission to engine.
Anyhow, a car cannibalized in that way should not be called a customer car, a customer car is meant to be a car ready to race as bought.
