F1 » F1 Driver of the Year vote: 8th

A mercurial season, largely dependent on the strength of his car, produced a win and five poles, but only eighth place in the 2013 F1 Driver of the Year poll for Lewis Hamilton...

8th seems fair enough to me. He gave up trying half way through the season and that reflects on peoples vote. Perhaps when/if he gets his priorities in order he will also get more respect. Dont forget he gets paid a fortune for doing something that most people would do for nothing.

He has come to Mercedes and as seen off Nico in Nico's team while trying to get use to the car which is an achievement in itself and as lead the points tally which as helped put Mercedes above Ferrari and all people can talk about is his hat.

As for his eighths place that may not be far off considering drivers like Hulks have out raced Lewis in a lessor car than him in a few races and would rightly be deserving of a higher place than Lewis I will just have to wait and see the next seven driver rating .

I admit that he can be a bit of a t1t but the sport is better off for having him in it and his speed is unquestionable. I can't help respecting him for actually choosing what he wears as opposed to simply wearing whatever his boss throws at him.

Guess he had a relatively mediocre season in terms of results, but that's probably why he's only been voted into 8th place.

It was a spectacularly dull season from the little sparkly one, one of the best qualifiers but one of the worst racers. Spent too many races sat behind supposedly slower drivers in slower cars for lap after lap without a clue how to pass.

8th sounds about right, happy Christmas fanboys!

BT33: He had a lot of bad luck with tyre punctures - did well in a car designed around shuey I thought - deserved a higher rating

He had better reliability than his team mate had, along with team orders he outscored nico by 12 points.

I see BMW are still advertising on Crash but they seem to have missed a trick, surely the best advert for BMW is that photo of Lulu in his Mercedes hat?

Red, It was 18 points, but yes I agree.

"accusations that his off-track life - including time spent with his dogs, in recording studios and aboard his new private jet - might be a bigger distraction than he admits."

Maybe so, but he multi-tasks whist designing the hats aboard the jet.

A larger pool of 'non Crash' voters would probably rank him higher.

Taipan I guess that when crash.net reveals the top three it will cause much controversy amongst the fans of this site. I guess that Vettel, Alonso and Raikkonen will be in the top three but which will be the order between them? Personally I gave the maximum ten points only to Hulkenberg and nines for the three drivers mentioned above and when I revealed it I got many disagrees. So it will be interesting. A contest of racecraft and popularity as well. Anyway I am happy that the fanboys got only an eight for their god despite being such fanatics.
