Well, since Vettel has been at Red Bull he has only partnered one driver, a driver who came up woefully short as a challenger to Vettel apart from 2010 and a driver who was driving the best cars since the mid 2009 season and never once won or even came runner up in the WDC even though driving the best cars. I hope Ricciardo can offer more of a challenge to Vettel than Mark ever did.

As for Vettel, still not sure how good he is other than to say he is a talent and all we can ask from Ricciardo is to do his best and hope his best will be good enough to ask questions of Vettel. And I do agree with DC when he says Ricciard has nothing to lose because F1 fans know's what can happen when a young number two driver takes on a multiple WDC when that number two driver has nothing to lose.

@rolex

He's won 4 titles and beaten all the top guys, proven he can overtake the best and his ability to drive round car issues and his ability always deliver a qualifying lap when he needs too is hugely impressive. His achievements are not just down to the car.

I agree there will always be this question marks by some until he moves to another team or has a Kimi/Alonso etc as a team mate but the best in the business and those who know rate him very highly.

I'm not really a betting man but I'd happily £20 on him beating Riccardo but the odds would be so crap I'd be lucky to get my money back. Hopefully Dan will prove me wrong though.

Really! He has won 4 WDCs on the trot, and you still wonder how good he is?
Look at how he handled his first F1 drive, and how is he only driver who as won a GP in a Torro Rosso.
Love him or hate him, there is no doubt whatsoever about his talent. If ever you get the opportunity to ask an honest current F1 driver about Vettel's talent, I am sure they will give you a similar answer.

You are not sure how good Vettel is? I'm surprised you know his name.

Yes Taz he won 4 on the trot, driving cars which were aerodynamically superior than the rest what else would you expect? And as for car issues the RB5 right through to the dominant RB9 had minimal issues these were reliable cars which only needed a good world class pilot which Vetel is.

It does surprise me when people think that stats alone determines the best sports person , if that was the case we would not have Ali being regarded as the greatest even though Rocky Marciano's stats were better, or Senna being regarded as the best even though not being the most successful statistically. Vettel is a talent but until he races a top driver in equal cars the there will always going to be ????????????????????

taz. you are right to be puzzled!
doesnt seb get a rolex everytime he is on the podium?
by the way, you are really splurging out...20 quid on a sure fire bet..........!

back on topic. seb has little pressure as he has bin there, dun that, got the t-shirt etc and has little to prove, whereas ricciardo has pressure to come up with the goods by mid season, or he will be shown the door.

i don't look for Seb to do much this year. he is now the senior leader of the team which will be a major change and has just had a child, did he name her kinky? the car at the moment is way behind. so no real expectations for him.
