5,5 second gap is the best what could have been achieved by any Renault . Someone like Newey may eventually squeeze one second, let's say, so that might act like an adrenalin injection to a horse already dead.
What have we here is simply the CRT class, reborn in F1 2014.

The CRTs are still Marussia and Caterham, can't see that changing any time soon either. There is just better interteam competition in F1, which is why the racing is actually (semi)legitimate, despite all the controls being imposed on the teams and drivers.
