F1 » Mansell: Hamilton close to perfection

Former F1 champion Nigel Mansell believes Lewis Hamilton has been close to perfection this season, and while he doesn't think Mercedes are going to be unbeatable, he can't see them 'dropping the ball' either.

Edit: this was a response to MikeLite's comment which sited many, including journalists, pundits and former drivers as tipping Hamilton as being the end all. My comment is to point out that there is a gain for them to support Hamilton even if they are not known for doing so in the past. If the British GP goes away, think of the affect in the British media. If sales lag due to F1 woes, then Bernie would waste no time in hinting at dropping it from the calendar.

... and track owners and bbc journalists. This could have something to do with the big push behind Hamilton from those mentioned groups.

Actual headline:

British Grand Prix: Lewis Hamilton victories 'boost ticket sales'

Lewis Hamilton's three consecutive wins have brought British Grand Prix ticket sales back on track, according to Silverstone chairman Neil England.

mercedes are the ones closer to perfection. ham has responded by not having to worry about alonso, raikkonen, vettel and the rest, he just needs to focus on beating his team mate, and so far so good although we have only had the opening flyaway races.

Durable tyres, cars that require driver skill, to go with raw speed then you will see this guy drive/race close to perfection. I'm surprised Mansell is praising Lewis as he is usually slating the guy, but i suppose it takes one great British driver to appreciate another, as Nigel's 31 GP win is under threat this season from a guy who is beating his team-mate for fun.

Hope Nico can bounce back because he is the only challenge to Lewis as I cant seeing the WO5 being challenged by any other team.

I'd say the praise for perfection is more due Marc Marquez than Lewis Hamilton. 4 for 4 is perfect. 3 for 4 is not, nor can Hamilton have a perfect season this year. That train has already left the station.

Eisch! You guys are hard to please.

Hamilton is a hugely talented driver and when he first arrived on the scene, I thought that we had another Shumi in the making. We was blindlingly fast but prone to silly mistakes (inexperience + pressure + inferior car).

Given a good team and a good car, he is able to drive within the envelope for a change and able to show the results that eluded him for so long.

If his car had not broken down in Australia it would be 4 out of 4 MrFill!

Nigel is spot on with his assessment.
