F1 » Massa fumes at Perez over clash

Felipe Massa believes a five-place grid penalty is not sufficient punishment for Sergio Perez after their high-speed accident in the Canadian Grand Prix

What does Massa expected Perez to do? It was so close to turn 1 and Perez was in the process of taking the left hander, he couldn't do anything about Massa charging into turn 1 and forcing an overtake on Perez. I don't agree with the stewards handing Perez a 5 position penalty it should have been the other way around because Massa was determined to overtake Perez because he realised that the laps were running out. Bad decision.

These are amongst the most skillful drivers (lets face it, not everyone gets to drive a F1 car) with the reflexes of a fighter pilot. Racing is racing and the odd accident is to be expected. I am just glad Felipe is ok after two major accidents (the first in Ferrari) He just got away with it this time.

The Stewards have carefully scrutinised it from all angles, heard what the drivers have had to say, and made their decision.

Felipe was vindicated by their decision but he should now move on. Sure, it was a very dangerous situation and one can understand why he is upset, but F1 is inherently dangerous, mistakes/miscalculations/errors of judgment can be made at high speed exposing others to serious risk, and the participants (who are paid big bucks) presumably accept that.

I feel its unfair on Perez to get the penalty, you are allowed to use 1 defensive move. Perez was in the front he had the turn advantage. Massa took a chance and risk life by late braking block which he clearly didn't execute. The penalty should go to Massa in reality. But F1 as you know is very biased towards big spending teams. Shame.

This was nothing more than a racing incident. Indeed Checo made a move to prevent crashing into Seb, because of breakes worn out, and because he had the right to do it: he was so ahead of Massa that it was Filip's front tyre that hit Checo's rear from behind. I even doubt the Williams was going to be able to keep on track, running off over Seb's.
Brave race for Checo that once more proves Macca in the wrong
To me the penalty only proves Valja and Fenley's point about F1 Strategy Group, of which Williams is part an FI is not.
Add to this that Felipe is what he's always been, a #2 driver who thiks he can whine as a #1.

What a bad mouth. How much grand prix experience (Mass) Still whinning. Perez Has right to defend. It almost near turn (As per experience he must have calculate opposite drivers breaking.) As perez also trying to aviod vettel also try to overtake him.

Massa Seems opportunistic, as perez & vettel are fighting, he get in between them & took lot of risk (he too aggressive), he could have front in next straight line.

Also massa front tyre touch back of perez, So perez almost one car front.

its racing incident, he should not talk to press in such harsh words.

Different opinions are expected and is normal from F1 followers, also opinions are a right of everybody, but it should be remembered that no matter the experience/expertise of those watching a race the stewards of the race are in a much better position to accurately judge things.

Wow, I was flabbergasted when I came on the boards after the race to learn Perez was penalized for this accident.

At worst it was a racing incident, at most Massa lost his mind and somehow expected to be given the corner. I have yet to see a camera angle where it appears that Perez did anything other than take his line, which as the car well and truly in front he was correct to do.

I blame red mist for urging Massa to come from so far back, and I'm astounded the stewards called it the other way. Boo.
