You would have thought that for a designer like Newey F1 would be the ultimate challenge. But with rules being so tight, loop holes being closed as soon as they're found and laws against any kind of design freedom you can understand why a guy like him has become bored of it.

How long will it be before the engine development freeze makes the top engineers look elsewhere to challenge their skills?

Sad.

Agreed, I think F1 is living off its image now as the top level, when in fact its becoming more of a restricted 'show'

Customer cars aren't allowed though:

- All cars use Red Bull designed sidepods
- All cars use TAG ECU
- All teams use the same engines of 3 manufacturers

Its only the wings an monocogue now that AREN'T customer...

The ECU is from McLaren and is called the TAG320, It is not made by TAG (Techniques Avant Garde). Its also so advanced that it rather lower spec than most smart phones nowadays...

Newey's thinly veiled reference to Mercedes dominance this season is rich coming from the man who has utterly dominated F1 over the past four seasons! Sounds like sour grapes to me.

At the launch of Ben Ainslie racing (BAR) in Portsmouth “I am delighted with the signings we have made on the design side” Newey is determined to be involved in this project, and no matter what Horner/RBR says Newey seems to have just issued them with an ultimatum.
