Check out the youtube video of Jenson Button at Bathurst. A small insight of how awesome it would be.
from what I understand is it's not the surface that would prevent F1 at Bathurst, it's the runoff areas and safety aspect.

Elswagger: One of the most boring track, its like having Valencia on the calender but because its a season opener people look forward to it.

Have you ever been to a Melbourne Gp? The atmosphere is amazing. Certainly a lot better than one of those tracks in the middle of the desert where Berine seems hell bent of taking every GP.

A formula one follower I was talking too about the Australian GP contract extension asked, how the hell did they (the Australian GP organizers and their chairman Ron Walker) get over their engine noise level worries?.

As a proud Australian my reaction to this is 100% pure "Meh". I'd be thrilled to see the Grand Prix at Adelaide or Bathurst. Bathurst does have a very rough surface, which is why it's not a prime candidate for the F1 calender.

That said however, if teams can spend millions upon millions of dollars developing cars, surely they can make them handle a slightly bumpy road. Remember, Bathurst is still a proper dedicated racing circuit. (INB4 it's actually open everyday as a public tourist drive).

Anyway, it's great for Australia and I'm happy it's secured :)

izybluffen: Damn. I can only dream of it coming back to Adelaide.

A great alternative would be Melbourne and Adelaide alternating the race, but that will never happen, especially with Bernie at the helm. Really pleased that Australia will still be on the grid for the foreseeable future though, never fails to disappoint, knowledgable crowd and great racing.
