Toro Rosso team principal Franz Tost believes Jean-Eric Vergne is the best F1 driver to be leaving Toro Rosso and not moving to Red Bull

Other top teams should pay attention to the fact JEV compares very well to Dan, and if given better equipment he might give the established highly paid names a run for their money, just as Dan has done. Also, he will come at a bargain basement price.

runnah: Then why get rid of him for someone who barely has hair on his nuts?

Paycheck. If Tost is really laying it out for real, then as a young driver program, they are not out for WDCs and the enormous payout that comes with it. Just keep cycling through one young stable after another and hopefully the cream will find a future drive. I like it.

Feel for JEV but Tost is right, Toro Rosso has a purpose, to nurture the talents of Red Bull's young drivers. JEV has proven his worth and he and Riccairdo were so closely matched as team mates, will be surprised if he doesn't get a drive next year. If worse comes to worst and he needs to pay for a drive Red Bull should cough up some spare change and help him out.

I don't get why people say JEV and Ricciardo where close as team mates.

Ricciardo out-qualified him 15 to 4 which is basically a destroying, and Ricciardo outscored him 20 to 13.

If the car was able to score every round instead of a handful the gap would of been much bigger.

Three years and you are out, sounds like a clear case of age discrimination.
And hey, thanks Franz for the kind words, that and 5 euro will get Vergne a cup of java. Teensteppen didn't even go through the Red Bull driver program, did he? Maybe they should change the name to the Red Bull driver development program for other series and teams.

Totally agree , the dan/ jev story was not in the points...there battle was over in Quali, in the race Dan ran out of tyres while Jev had a set left because of his poor quali.....but in reality they were poles apart...Dan flogged jev...that is why he is at Redbull...l think Tosts comments are more of a PR exercise for Jev to help him stay in F1...But the fact is Jev has had 2 team mates in his F! career and has been beaten by both them, to this point....

Tost's statement has a very hollow ring to it for JEV..... huh, some consolation! Ok Tost, maybe you had better organise some sort of "parachute payment" for your " relegated" drivers just like the FA does for Premier league teams dropping into the Championship, so they can pay the rent after you sack them!
