If I wanted to watch spec racing I would watch GP2, or horse racing. F1 without development is nothing I want.

Forget the engines, what about the aeros? The cars nowadays are so aerodynamicly influenced, they can't run too close to the car in front, can't overtake. blah blah blah. Why can't the cars be like in the old days when they can overtake with impunity?

I expect this was done to gaurantee engine reliability - meaning that less cars (if any) will break down during a race in 2008 onwards. Just look at this years reliabilty record due to the engines being frozen from last year. Due to that ruling from last year, this year we had a possible WDC fight until the last race because none of the major teams blew up. (Unlike with Kimi in McLaren in 2006!).

I guess that means more exciting fights in the future for the last lap if more cars are actually IN the race?

I guess this is the idea. :?

Isn't F1 a prototype racing series were one of the main purposes is to develop & test technologies on the track so they can eventually be brought to the street? This seems totally counter-productive to that.

Effectively concluding the closed shop that f1 is, how would, say cosworth, come back to the series in 3yrs time if one of 'small teams' tires of ferrari business or just can't afford them ?? The solution is simple as all engines must have ferrari pistons, ferrari crankshafts, ferrari ferrari ferrari :)

I really hope this comes to bite MAX on the *** after his Ferrari most important team in F1 statement. I hope there engine is crap next year and cannot fix the problem for the next 10 years. What a stupid rule this just makes all engine development people in the teams redundant. There is no reason for this as this just penalises all small teams as they do not get any benefit from this the engine will still cost them X amount to purchase.

It's anti competative...ok they hide it behind being cheaper for the back teams, which it isn't as the cash saved on this just gets poured into the aero developement or brakes, or something else. But by doing so, they've pretty much said to all back of the pack teams buy a consumer engine off Ferrari or Merc, or don't compete. We need more competition not less, everyone with a different engine, five or six different tyre manufacturers.

Cheaper? maybe. But good for competition. No.

Hang on a minute. how exactly will the f1 masterplan of 'going green' work if they are unable to bring in alternative fuels due to the internals being frozen and the ecu being generic. surely the energy reclaim technology that everyones been touting has now been nipped in the bud!? so much for f1 pushing the road car green revolution forward.

The FIA is destroying the sport with their outrageous restrictions that simpply do nothing to benefit the sport. Why on earth would they suspend egine development for 10 years and allow other motorsport league's to surpass them? In ten years the American Champ Car series will have engines stronger than F1 and probably more exciting races. The FIA is really spoiling it for the fans and something has to be done about this. How do they expect a struggling team like honda move up on the grid if they can't enhance their enginge performance to work with their aerodynamics? I see F1 going down hill in the future and it really sucks because it's losing it's appeal as the pinnacle of motorsports

And they really aren't helping the lower budget teams either. Sponsors want to be on the cars that are winning races. The cameras aren't on Super Aguri's during a race unless their crashing or passing FA on the outside :). Other than that they get no airtime. Max is running the sport like the mafia and he said it himself he holds Ferrari in higher regard than other teams. This engine development freeze will only benefit the teams that can produce a fast reliable engine by the end of 08 and that's what ferrari does best, produce fast reliable engines. The teams really need to ban together and protest because F1 is now a business and it up to the teams to take it back... Impeach Max Mosley
