Just because other governments pay to have an F1 race, why should we? In a sport where a team is ordered to pay a $100m fine and not miss a beat, the notion that taxpayers should stump up is ludicrous. I love F1, go to Silverstone every year, but I'm not willing to have money diverted from ducation, health and housing into a sport run by Mosley and Ecclestone.

Silverstone IS a joke and if you take a look at some of our other tracks they are definately better than Silverstone. Take Brands Hatch for example, Motorsport Vision have done wonders with that place, and the fact that the A1GP is hosted there is a big plus point. I think they should either use Brands Hatch again or get the damn government to back a plan to build a new grand prix track.

If Bernie is so passionate about Silverstone, why does he not spend some of his many many millions on it?
It will be small change given the amount of money he has.

Because Bernie wants to own Silverstone, he doesnt want to be giving someone else money to spend on something that isnt his.

I cannot believe the drivel written by Mark Lawrence! How can a thread about the state of one of Britains race tracks be turned into a rant about a tremendous British driver.Perhaps another reason for Lewis leaving these shores is to avoid such utter nonsense?

Sorry Mr. Ian Beckett,

The government cannot save Silverstone if there is no money.

Where does the money come from?

Taxes which must be paid by "a tremendous British driver" and British F1 leader Lewis Hamilton! :)

Lewis must pay his Taxes to the UK to save Silverstone!

Lewis pays UK taxes = Silverstone SAVED! ;)
