Not a great shock, it has been the worst kept secret in F1.
Renault being found guilty of spying & then let off, then FA signing for Renault.
Makes you wonder what sort of relationship, or if a deal, was made betwen Briatore, MM, BE & the FIA.
Hope Heiki gets the Mclaren seat, & shows that he is as good a drive as Briatore doesn't think he is.

Well,

wonder what will happen if Mr Piquet Jnr is as good as his dad, and stuffs Mr Alonso!

Have to say, I am pleased Alonso isnt going to be excluded from 2008, will be good to see the rivalry with Hamilton resume.

Roll on 2008(without the politics please)

Glad he got a seat, good for the championship. Im not sure Renault can build a championship winning car next year though.

And I'll laugh my *** off if Piquet Jr is good and we get 2007 all over again :)

To bad for Heikki, he only had one season to prove himself and ontop of that he had a crappy car. I hope he ends up at McLarern and he and Lewis destroy the field. Alonso shouldn't have left Renault to begin with but I hope they give him a good car next year so Lewis could put him to shame...

Nowhere in any of the reports did I see how long he signed for. Did he concede to 3 years or did Renault concede to one year?

Certainly fuels the conspiracy theories. BE wouldn't let one of his top drivers go without a drive in 2008, hence the Renault let off.

What's the point? It's already beenm proved that the engineers at Renault are too thick too understand the McLaren data that FA will be able to give them. Or have they been able to decipher it now? It don't really matter now anyway - I'll be watching the BTCC next year, I've had enough of the politics  Perhaps!

calvin, alonso has signed a one-year deal with renault so i can only assume there is another clause. perhaps it is that fernando cannot have number one status over piquet jr?

it now looks obvious that heikki will sign with mclaren and the news will probably be confirmed very soon, considering 2007 is at an end and heikki will have to get used to the car.

hamilton is in for a shock. i can see hakkinen and coulthard all over again. if kovalainen goes and beats hamilton, dennis will become smitten with the nordic route.

FA left renault because they couldn't decide if they wanted compete in F1 any more and bounced around with their decision. Fernando needed a job so he took the next available seat and the wads of cash.

If Nelsinho even comes close to being a threat...

Sudoku is right.

IF Heikki Kovalainen get a truely equal seat at Mclaren Hamilton will find it very hard to beat Kovalainen.

The problem is that mclaren are probably going to end up using a test driver like Pedro so that Hamilton does not have any competition from within. Alson Kovalainen will not join Mclaren untill they can say without a doubt that they will be able to race in 2008. I don't see Heikki joining mclaren knowing that they are still not cleared to race in 2008.
