Not a great shock, it has been the worst kept secret in F1.
Renault being found guilty of spying & then let off, then FA signing for Renault.
Makes you wonder what sort of relationship, or if a deal, was made betwen Briatore, MM, BE & the FIA.
Hope Heiki gets the Mclaren seat, & shows that he is as good a drive as Briatore doesn't think he is.

rajiv, you have a very valid point but i think kovalainens chances of racing in 2008 are better with mclaren. piquet jr has been promised a race seat by renault and alonso has rejoined but mclaren could still race next year. thats the way i see it at this moment in time.

Glad to hear FA has got a drive for next year.OK,the guy's a toy throwing crybaby wjth a personality disorder and a liking for thrusting knives into the backs of anyone close, but you can't dispute his awesome talent!
I will enjoy Alonso being back to where he was in 2003/4(i.e developing a car that's currently upper midfield at best),but I am sure by the year's end he'll be challenging for race wins. Before stabbing Briatore/Renault F1 in the back again to drive for Ferrari in '09!!(I thought Raikonnen and Massa were both contracted until 2010  ?????)

as if this is a suprise but the itv-f1 website has confirmed fisi and kovy are leaving which clearly suggests that kovy will join mclaren and fisi will try and beat klien to the remaining force india seat.

Far too many investors had an interest in seeing Alonso back in F1 in a competitive car. It was never an option for Alonso to take a year out. 2008 sees Spain with two races; Barcelona and Valencia. Both races will now be massive sell outs of 150,000 fans / race. No Alonso and you would be lucky to see 20,000 Spanish fans at each race. That's the Alonso effect! No other driver can shift so many tickets.

Now that all the moppets who screeched on this forum that FA cannot get competitive ride are proven IDIOTS by the MAN, ...You can take it to the bank, that Renault is dead serious about taking both titles in 2008, and they will, remember you heard it here first…….and Nelson P Junior. doesn't need to beat his teammate to make a mark, all he has to do is consistently beat The Best Rookie Ever in his crappy McErrary....LMAO...Who will be the best rookie than...AH, Simon....Bob the Knob...where are you....moppets...!!!

Its irrelevant how many years Alonso has signed for, contracts mean nothing. Didnt he sign a 3 year deal at Maclaren? then went crying off after just one year??
Hope Piquet rides alongside Alonso, cos Piquet was quicker or as quick as Hamilton,so it'll be good to see.

A lot is being said of Alonso being a cry baby etc and its been made out to be so bad by the BRITISH media and I think a lot of people of be sold on it. I certainly hope that Flavio gets FA to spill the beans on what really happened within the Mclaren team now he is back at Renault and Flavio being Flavio wont keep it to himself for to long. Dont get me wrong I think a lot of what went on was his fault and he deserved a lot of the stick he got but there is no way he is entirely to blame.
